2017 Pirelli / Indy at Mid-Ohio

Last weekend I spent the day at my favorite playground working on some on-track action with the Pirelli and Indycar series. Because of weather and scheduling, this turned out to be my only weekend in Lexington this year, but there was good news to be had on the weekend - it was announced that next year will mark the return of the IMSA Sportscar series to the 2.4 mile road course. I'm really looking forward to it. In the meantime, it was good to touch base with old friends and get some steps in while I hiked around the track.

It was another fantastic year at Pittsburgh's Schenley Park, home of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, and for the 35th year in a row, it did not dissapoint. People came from all over to participate in the Concours d'Elegance, and to watch the races which run through the park. I'm told that this year's event raised some $450,000 for the Autism Society of Pittsburgh, as well as the Allegheny Valley School.

Highlights for me included a pre-production Ford GT hidden "off to the side" in a small wooded area of the Concours, as well as a first look at the motorcycle collection. I also took the opportunity to have some fun with a new fisheye lens.

On a sad note, I learned that Steve Webber, longtime media director and the guy that got me involved with this event to begin with, passed away this past year. He was a great guy and will be missed.

These are photos from the Saturday events during the Pirelli World Challenge / Indycar weekend at Mid-Ohio. I walked the paddock as well as the track over the course of the day (since I got a Fitbit I've been trying to hit my 10,000 steps with regularity, and this was a good opportunity to get some steps in). I enjoy trying to sniff out new locations and to try to make something new from locations I've been at before. I think I caught a few new ones this go round. And for those keeping score at home, 16,000 steps before I left.

These are photos from the Saturday events at the 2016 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. Put on by the Pittsburgh Automotive Dealer's Association as a fundraiser for the Autism Society of Pittsburgh as well as Allegheny Valley School, the event serves as a gathering place for vintage cars and buffs from around the country.

This was my second year attending, and, just like last year, it did not disappoint. Great weather, cool cars, and a great vibe combined for another fantastic weekend. Seriously, I can't reccommend this event enough.

This year I decided to work mostly on my telephoto work on the track. My son and I wandered the Concours d'Elegance to catch some automotive history (as well as some current offerings) up close. Somehow, there's never enough time. I can't wait to try again next year.

The 2016 Twelve Hours of Sebring

Well, springtime is upon us again, and for me that means another jaunt to my favorite race of the year. After getting an early peek at the Ford GT at the 2015 Cleveland Auto Show, I was really looking forward to seeing it in race trim. Needless to say, I was not disappointed, at least not in the cars or the racing.

Full disclosure: I did not see the end of the race. There was rain and a red flag for lightning, marking the first time the race was stopped for weather since 1997. I was looking forward to trying out some new gear during the evening segments, but alas, I was caught out by the rain. Still, I enjoyed the time that I did have and I'm looking forward to the next go-round, rain or shine (hopefully shine).
